I've played bass since 1975. Always loved Lee Dorman. Also listen to his bass on the 3 Captain Beyond Albums. I got a chance to talk to him here in San Diego- he was at a Music Trader store with Ron Bushy doing an autograph thing before an Iron Butterfly concert. I told him I loved Captain Beyond and his eyes lit up.Think I made his day!

I liked all of Dorman's work too. Irn Btrfly was interesting from a melodic point of view, and there was some talent in the band from the playing AND writing side. But they were from an era where production and post-production was cheesy, and when bands were getting hosed by their labels and managers..a transport mix up made them miss playing the original Woodstock, and history might have been a lot different, if.....
Ha ha ha, Dorman ... ( 2 months ago by ironbuttermilk)
Ha ha ha, Dorman dances like a dork! Good bass player though, and groovy bass. Those Mosrites had great pickups, but were Hard to solo on because of the weenie-ass frets, which Semie later corrected on some of the 70's and 80's guitars. You can't do easy Blues bending on those frets 'cause there's too much finger drag on the board. Semie actually made a Blues Bender model in response to this criticism. Rickenbackers aren't great soloing guitars either except for a couple of modern models.

Actually I think Doorman looks very cool, very "Mod" definitely "hip", for those of us oldies that were there, we all tried to dance like that. That Bass riff is sooo cool. Second only to CTA'S bass riff in "I'm a man".

If I close my eyes and listen to this, I can be back in '68 in about 2 seconds. I agree with guy here who said that the bass line and arrangement are pure genious. Trippy in the best sense. Look at Ingle playing with the buttons in the melodic instrumental part. Really organic. Back in the day, you didn't have a pedal with 200 presets. You had to rely on your own ingenuity. That is what I remember best about that era of music and that is what made it so original, no disrespect to current bands.

I used to trip to this album way back in '98 when I was a college lad. I remember thinking that they must be on the same stuff as me & it blew my mind 30 years later! The way they change moods on this album is awesome!
