NBA on CBS coverage of the 1985 NBA Draft Lottery, the first ever. I got a lot of complaints about my original video not showing David Stern reaching into the drum for the alleged "frozen envolope" so I included the entire thing, as well as Dave Debusschere showing a Ewing jersey already made up. A prelude to the Knicks-Pacers rivalry of the 1990's.
Fans of the bent envelope theory point to 4:50 of the video where the corner of the envelope that would eventually be picked #1 can be seen with a bent corner sticking up.

Why was David Stern taking a deep breath right before reaching into the drum? Like he knew he better pick the right (already bent) envelope. Help out the biggest market in the league at a time when the league was struggling. I don't believe the envelope was frozen. Too many people could've touched that logo after Stern gave it to the Knicks GM, he was shaking hands w/ the other GM's while holding it, way too risky. Much less physical evidence w/ bending the envelope then throwing it in the drum.

I don't think, that was fixed. Sure... a trained magician could easily pull this off. But some pencil-pushing executive in front of TV and live audiences?
