Have you tried logging on to your domain with xp pro and configuring it correctly?

AD in 10.5 is rather broken, however I think your issue is stemming from the use of .local since that is reserved for bonjour. However even after you get it bound good luck getting it to work. I have had numerous issues with binds failing with DS -14XXX errors and when it does bind no one can login. Of course this all works in 10.4.11. Here is hoping for 10.5.2! Hope this helps.

I tried to post a link, doesn't work. Do a google search for Leoaprd .local AD and look at the 3rd link on the Apple message group, should help.

I gave up and removed the Windows Box - set up the network purely on OS X server. As it stands right now, I'll probably be switching to pure Windows for hosting my network. OS X Server is very very buggy.

Leopard's AD integration totally sucks, but you will have extra problems if you use a .local domain unless you disable Bonjour.
