A 16-year-old schoolgirl is disrobed in the middle of the road and made to run on the streets for a full 45 minutes in the heart of Gauwhati, the capital of Assam. Chanu Sharmila -- a frail but determined lady is on fast for the last six years protesting the Armed Forces Special Forces Act in Manipur and other parts of the northeast. Wailing Kashmiri mothers mourn the acts of the Indian army almost every day and the images are seen in the print media and in sections of the satellite television medium. The leading prosecuting agency in the country, the Central Bureau of Investigation colludes with high-ranking leaders and expresses inability to trace key witnesses in the November 1984 anti-Sikh carnage cases. The agony of the Nagas finds no mention in more than three-fourth part of the country. Indian courts continue to discriminate between one category of victims and criminals as compared to the others.

Before I start, let me convey my deepest condolences to the Sikh community for what India govt did to you in 1984. I hope you get justice from government but I know its highly unlikely since I know about the govt.

I'm a Tamil and my family was in Delhi during 1984. My family provided refuge for a Sikh guy escaping persecution for 3 days. Unfortunately this is all we could do as normal citizens as we were not political. If we had no empathy for Sikh rights or any humans rights, we would not have provided shelter for this guy. This is at a time when Sikhs were branded "terrorists" and people didnt trust them. My parents gave shelter because they knew these sikhs are not terrorists but innocent.

How? Rewind 19 yrs to the anti-hindi imposition movement in 1965 in tamil nadu.
Indian forces killed close to 500 people (Official figure is 66 thanks to central govt propaganda) who were mainly youth protesting peacefully.
IPKF killed and raped Tamil civilians (not LTTE) in Sri Lanka in 1987. Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi deserved their asses being blown for what they did in 1984 and 1987.
Hindutva, Hindi-belt politicians, RSS, VHP, BJP, COngress has messed with a lot of minorities.

A lot of civilians are completely clueless of politics and are fuelled by passion and blind faith in politicians idealogy. Even knowledgeable people have no power to speak up against these politicians.
The problem with India is the power is with the politicians, army and the police. Together they are like a state sponsored mafia. There is no one to govern the politicians, police the police and the army. The checks and balances system is almost non-existent in India.

First of all I will say thanks to all of my "Hindu" neigbours who gave us shelter when whole delhi was burning around us. The main thing is that it wasn't attack on Sikhs by Hindus but by Govt of the time.
