Video Description: The Secretariat legacy is an amazing gift to horse lovers of every kind. Here is one of the amazing and legendary races of Secretariat at the last leg of the triple crown, June 9th 1973. This is one amazing horse. I created this video to share with the fans. Enjoy and cry for joy in such a miracle run. :)
I want to dedicate this video that I created to 2 wonderful horses that passed away in 2006-2007: Lost in the Fog & Barbaro May they live and run within our hearts forever. They are now with "Big Red" in a kingdom that any horse lover would love to see one day.
*The instrumental song is from the movie "Rudy".

I pray that when they do the movie rights, that they show the actual race footage of The Triple Crown with Secretariat...no Hollywood movie could EVER capture the enormity of what he did in those first 2 races and on that Belmont day...the footage of him deserves to be seen by everyone who wasn't there during his miraculous races. They should really see Secretariat's supernatural ability through the eyes of what really happened and the powerful effect he had on us all. He's beyond imitation.

HOW.
They're painting him as a horse with champion qualities, well there's only one Seabiscuit.

pleasance: WoW, where to begin!?! You're seriously saying, with your previous comment, that SECRETARIAT is somehow NOT a Champion or does NOT possess what you call "champion qualities"? Who are the "they" you refer to when you say "THEY'RE painting him (you mean SECRETARIAT) as a horse with champion qualities, well there's only one Seabiscuit."? So, to answer your reply (HOW) in regards to my statement that your original comment ("He's no Seabiscuit") was ridiculous: you're crazy, that's why.

pleasance: Just 2 make my point crystal clear: BOTH were Champions, you kook! SECRETARIAT was bigger and faster, but they were both great. Comparing them is apples/oranges cuz 'biscuit raced til 8, SECRETARIAT only til 3, 'biscuit didn't run in the TC, whereas SECRETARIAT never ran handicap races. Both weren't perfect, and upset when they were favored. But both were competitive + never backed down, taking sprints/distance races. You're nuts. Q: how can you say SECRETARIAT is not a Champion?

he was, in my opinion, the greatest racehorse of all time.

I loved Seabiscuit,,,absolutley loved him. However I do know people who's relatives worked for his trainers. The truth about Seabiscuit is actully very sad and not as discribed in the movie or the book. How much do you REALLY know about Seabiscuit? Secretariat was a champion,,there is no getting around it. So to was Seabiscuit, however ANYONE who knows the cost Seabiscut paid would be sickened by the facts. I don't tell it because I want people to remember him as he is portayed. He deserves it.

I always felt bad form Sham, had it not been for Secretariat he would have been hailed the greatest. He gave his all and was just unfortunate to be 3 years old the same year as Big Red.

He just doesn't have the heart, spirit, pluck that Seasbiscuit had. I read the book & saw the movie. It's like comparing Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt, I'd say Lincoln is the bigger hero (i.e. champion).
You're really crazy about horses, aren't you?
What precisely are ... ( 2 months ago by gfn02)
What precisely are you basing that on? The film? When you say heart, I don't know how you can possibly say Biscuit had more heart or spirit. As far as pluck goes, I don't even know what that means. Remember that Biscuit wsa allowed to race until he was 7, whereas SECRETARIAT did not. I also do not think your Abe/TR analogy is relevant to these two horses. I'm not crazy about horses. I've read the Hillenbrand book, and it is wonderful. The movie isn't close to as good. Both horses had heart.

crazy talk, seabiscuit was great and had heart, but if you don't think it takes heart to beat a horse named sham and win the belmont stakes by 31 lengths, then you are just crazy!!!

I can only imagine being a part of the pandemonium at Belmont, beginning as Big Red pulled away from Sham. What a sight that must have been!

You are SO wrong and disclose with your comment/opinion that you know NOTHING about Secretariat. "he doesn't have the heart, spirit, pluck that Seabiscuit had"!!!!???? I'm 66 yrs old and noone appreciates Seabiscuit more than I. When I was 8 or 9 a movie came out, 1948, I think, that was about Seabiscuit and I cried and loved it. BUT.. You are ignorant re. Sec and I don't mind using that word here. He is ALL of heart, spirit, pluck and more. I suggest you read ANOTHER book, Nack's biography.
I was there. When ... ( 1 month ago by 2813uf)
I was there. When Secretariat opened to 3 the roar was deafening. Everyone at Belmont knew the race was over at that point. It was just a matter of how many lengths. But no one in their right mind thought it'd be 31. Down the stretch it was total pandomonium and the feeling of the ultimate respect to an athlete. He was actually accelerating at the finish and would have won by 50+ if the race was another 1/8 t0 1/4 of a mile. Don't ever forget that Forego passed up this race because of Big Red.
2813uf, were you ... ( 1 month ago by blackcloudipoy)
2813uf, were you watching the fractions? And if so, were you thinking at all he was going to blow a fuse? I just can't imagine what his 4 year old season would have looked like! After what he had done on the track, you would have thought Claiborne & Tweedy might've negotiated a deal to let him keep racing. Only don't let him run with a huge abcess in his mouth or run him when he's not 100%!!! He might own ALL THE RECORDS had they done that!!!
His performance was ... ( 1 month ago by 2813uf)
His performance was so amazing that all you could look at was him while listening to other voices in amazement. I looked at the tote board at the end only and saw the unbelievable 2:24. The annihilation of the record in high heat and humidity (heat index had to be at least 100 that day) without the horse ever being touched is amazing. In all my life I've never seen fans so stunned. Everyone expected him to win. But to win like that, wow and the stories about folks in tears etc - are all true.

BTW - Till this day my friends and i still believe that what Chick Anderson said on the turn is "Secretariat is frightening now", not widening. There was even a story in the papers the next day about that wording. In fact Anderson once said this horse moved so fast that he needed to interupt his normal call of the leaders. The effect of this is really obvious in the Preakness (BTW folks cursed that timekeeper after the Belmont) when Secretariat was almost in the lead during his leadership call.
