This is true. There have been bloody wars, and revolution throughout human history. I think it is easy to be seduced by the deceptively 'happy' feeling of such Rock festivals-they were really just music concerts after all and of course most people would be in a happy mood. Music was really just a diversion from the realities of the Vietnam conflict, race riots, assasinations of political figures, and relatively civil strife the world over.

a mind blower . . I was sitting in a small circle of friends smoking - to "avoid a bust" you set the j on the ground next to you for the next person - I was taking a hit and leaned back to see 2 cops watching and smiled - heart pounding when you think at that time it was an aggessive felony with real time in CA- after that I realized "we" were in a safe special time and place . . . then I looked left and there stood Brian Jones in a cap and cape smiling down on our circle that grew bigger . . .

The some of the Law Enforcement in Monterey had decorated their motorcycles with Flowers in honor of the Pop Festival sort of as a Joke, but at least they had a sense of humor. It showed a level of respect and tolerance that wasn't typical of the day.

There were folding chairs set up in rows on the floor of the fairgrounds. We were sitting in the middle of a row and along came a joint being passed up and down the row with impunity. There was no animosity or anger or fear anywhere in that place.
