As I remember, Ireland was the only country to give this song the maximum points. It deserved to win but it was a very strong contest that year with more superb songs than normally. The Swiss entry that year should have been a winner as well. There was nothing wrong with the performance and lighting when it was broadcast live; the intrusive lighting some people have mentioned is some kind of recording distortion or bad web reception. 1993 was likely the best song contest in Eurovision history.

This was clearly the best song of the night, however, but extremely poor camera direction and right out bad lighting didn't really help.
Also due to the "rules" not allowing their background tape to be played the song didn't sound as "light and fresh" as it did in the Dutch final...
If "Hemel en Aarde" and "Vrede" would have swopped places both songs would have probably done better and got their deserved victory.
This is a case of too good too early in the decade....

In my view the best Dutch Eurovision entry of the last 30-odd years, great music, stage presence, and a perfect voice. Maybe the lyrics were a touch too critical ... We're building houses that survive hurricances, we're building ships to travel in any storm, we're working on unbreakable lightbulbs, but we're not even managing to keep peace ...
