use a rubber band or elastic as the strring to releiuve pressure and keep the spring in it

In the start of the movie, the ball-carrier device was a lot further in front than its final position after firing. It leads me to believe something got in the way and stopped it, thus it lost a lot of power not being able to use the full swing of the crossbow arms.
