Well my whole interpritation is that he is caught in a culture clash. Back in the 60s you were a hippie or you werent. Hippies were frowned upon as a young rebellious counter culture and in this song he wasnt sure if it was right for him to conform to the norm and act like the rest of society... Well thats just my take on it... and im only 18.. i could be wrong
