No, this clip is misleading.
The war started because Lyndon Johnson couldn't afford leaving Vietnam during the election days of 1964. He just needed a pretense to ask Congress for a "white check", as suggested to him by Walt Whitman Rostow. The truth is the Tonkin Gulf incident on 4th of August '64 never occured, as McNamara himself admitted and as a 2005 NSA declassified report proves.

It's been a mistake by JFK though to leave the responsability of Generals "Coup d'etat" organization to Henry Cabot Lodge.

This film is propaganda. Only with a thorough study of the history of this war and Indochina can you fully understand it. S Vietnam was lost because of American politicians running war from Washington. No war can be won when that happens. S Vietnam army did fight. Poor leadership. Remember North invaded South. Yes many people in the US have ancestry from the UK but that and the same language is where the similarity ends. Also you would be surprised as heck hoemany people innthe US have ancestry other than from The UK. In Canada 24% are originaly French and only 26% are from the UK. All my ancestry is Czech but the people in the Czech Rep seem foreing to me as much as I seem foreing to them. The duference is on the pivital point of being North American or European, ancestry plays a minimal to no role.

The difference is that N. Americans are colonists. When the fisrt setlers wanted water they had to dig their own well is they wanted meet they had to hunt. So there is a bias towards doing something now and getting it done fast and "make it work". With the waves of immigrants leaving Europe only the harty and hardest working ones took the chance and risked it all. You are right about the shift of power that is going on. The US was at one time the only modern and rich 20th century power but now others are cathing up. Do remember that the knowhow and much of the start up money for their development originaly came from the US. Japan, Germany and now China are a perfect example of that. But there will always be poor and rich countries, that will not change. Who will be poor and who will be rich can and will change with time.

ehhh wrong answer cahx85. All we have is great artillery atm. Other countries are getting better medicare, advanced micro technology and improved economy. If you were speaking in retrospect I would have not replied. We are so far behind that we are still fighting over blacks and whites. U.S has the largest discrimination issues,always has.
