I meant illegal as in getting you kicked out, as in false play, scamming... Scamming is obviously illegal!! Why don't you people get this. Card counting IS scamming. It hurts the casino, therefore it's illegal... THEIR money is on the line. I never was talking about local or federal laws here. Also, the very first thing Darren admits is that he's been banned(!) from a lot of casinos. AS IN IT'S ILLEGAL. Geesh, it's even in the movie here, why so stubborn?

The objects nor the cards matter! It's the story you have in your mind making it possible to remember what changed in the story, which objects where taken from the room so to speak. That's all that matters if you know the basic mental story you've decided upon. I can explain the method in greater detail to you if you like, but it's not about counting objects, or counting cards, but visualizing a scenario in which things are easy to remember, even 52 things which sounds like a lot, but isn't.

kriby4d, just think of why people can remember the story of little riding hood so well, including most details if not all. Yes, you may have heard the story a few times in your life and learned it, yet the way psychology works made it possible to remember a LOT of details. Now just think of it as inventing your own Little Red Riding Hood story, except now you take advantage of the information.

Do tell how it's illegal? I find it that the casinos don't use fair play. If it's all about luck, why does the house "always" win, and why can't some "lucky" bastard stay if he happens to win? Having a good memory is not scamming, it's the game that is flawed.

Actually it works far far better if you use a real room to practice this with, something that you know inside-out when things would change when you're not there and come back (ie: the whole technique on which this counting works), make sure you count in a order that makes sense to you when moving through that room, both in real life and in your thoughts. I'm pretty sure that room, is an actual room of Derren that he knows really well.

I know, I should have explained right away. But having tried this and many other methods in real life, I know this method will fail when you'll try to remember exact cards. You have to think like this; Later that day, at around 7 'o clock someone knocked on my door 3 times. It was one retired king looking for his 2 ex-wifes. (door = 1, and it was 3 times removed from game. 7 'o clock = 7, 1 removed from play. retired king = -1 king card, 2 ex-wifes = -2 queens.) Build a story like that ,it works

doesnt matter how well there shuffled the point of card counting is letting thye deck get about half way through and if you have counted them properly you will know what the chances to get high cards are such as 10 jack queen king ace if there are alot of 9's or below in the deck he wont bet high because the chance of him loosing is greater

it would be amazing to be able to relate numbers to objects like this. I saw an autistic person on tv once that was the same way with numbers because he saw every number as it's own unique color. It was amazing.
