I can only imagine where Joy Division could have gone if they actually went on their American tour. The music will always be with us though and they really did go out with a bang.
Who is saying Ian ... ( 3 weeks ago by ZombieEaterz)
Who is saying Ian Curtis was a genius poet? he wasn't, neither was Bob Dylan. They are lyricists and their words are meant to be sung. Rimbaud isn't meant to be sung, so I don't know why you are comparing them. Ian was the lead singer in a band, these are LYRICS for music. He was in one of the greatest bands that has ever existed and he will continue to influence for generations to come, I doubt he cared if people thought his "poetry" was up there with the greatest.

Oh, and next time you use poets in your point try and use someone better then Rimbaud, I have 15 year old friends who write far deeper and more interesting poetry then he ever did. As you said, sometimes peoples "legacy" overshadow their actual talent.

My second favorite song from Closer. Passover is my favorite. These two bring chills to my spine and have the greatest emotional impact of any of their songs. Brilliant, just brilliant.

Wich only proves you understand very little about poetry. The legacy of Rimbaud has influnced many great writers, whose opinion i'll take more in account then yours...

Beautiful track,no one can comment on the late Ian Curtis,no one knew anything of the genius,we can only imagine by listening to these masterpieces and listening to the lyrics and depth of the music, but one things for sure,to judge someone without walking in there shoes is rediculouse,Respects.

rimbaud was used as an example because of age, not because of talent (tho' he had much). i'd love to read some of this poetry you claim to be superior to his. and on what do you base your opinion? how much rimbaud have you read? have you read it in the original french? and in response to your question 'Who is saying Ian Curtis was a genius poet?', hem0223 did, the person to whom my comment was originally addressed. it seems trying to be clever clearly doesn't work for you. cheers.

How can anyone fail to be moved by such a monumental tune like this one? The droning synths and his dejected voice and lyrics are soul-chilling. My favorite JD tune.

I used to play his song daily or more at a certain time in the '80s. I haven't heard it in a few years till today.
Still gives me visceral chills! Profound beauty and profound sadness. One of those rare songs that nears perfection. The effect it has on listeners is proof! Producer
Martin Hannett is the "George Martin" of this song, as he wrote and played the brilliant keyboard parts that complement Ian's voice and lyrics so effectively. A gem.
