Part of me wants to go all cheesy and back in the day, before hip hop got robbed of meaning by stupid wannabe gangsters - the other thinks: this is when you could rap about any old bollocks and get props - listen to the actual words he says...
"MCs once prophets now reduced to the role of court jesters" (Dabrye feat. Kadence - Encoded Flow) - from a 2008 perspective, Rob Base sounds more like a jester who signifies, than a prophet who doesn't.

Just chill. It's a party jam. Who goes to parties to analyse song lyrics? Hip-hop started off as party music. I don't know many people who ever listened to hip-hop for spiritual guidance and only spiritual guidance. MCs are artists not prophets. Hip-hop is a sub-culture not a cult. These are songs, not dogma.
If MCs are court jesters, who are they entertaining (who holds court)? Court jesters don't entertain the masses...

Sorry if I came over all po-faced, my bad - you're right, a jester/prophet paradigm doesn't do it much justice. Hip hop can have a serious poetic dimension, but I'm not sure Rob Base is a case in point.
