i got one more thing to say. if high caliber round like the MG42's when it hits the water should it not "explode on contact? I saw on mythbusters that a round is slowed or distentegrated once in contact with water. I do know it does happen but i don't think it is capable of taking out 2 men at once. But i only know from a freshman's stand point in High school

The MG 42 had a caliber of 7,92 mm so it really went through the soldiers bodys with ease. That´s part of why it was so effective. And it fired 1200 rounds per minute so it´s even kind of an overkill.

It shouldn't have happened like this, they came in too quick after/during bombardment, so it doubled up the shit they had to get through. Brave men to be sure but there were other beach landings you don't hear about Juno, Sword and Gold, Juno being the most heavily defended.
