For a long time I had a description on here that was very critical of Ron Paul. In retrospect, that was probably a very immature thing to do, for it only emboldened his supporters, and also because it was a reaction to his supporters, and not necessarily Ron Paul the candidate.
I mean, of all the Republican candidates, Ron Paul was definitely the most revolutionary. I didn't agree with almost anything he said, but he did change my opinion on one thing. I used to be an ardent supporter of gay marriage. I am now an opponent of all marriage conducted by the state. Marriage is a religious institution, the state is only responsible for giving out the benefits associated with a marriage, not sanctifying it. I guess in that sense, Ron Paul had the most amount of influence. He changed the narrative in many people's minds, the way Ross Perot did in 1992. Perhaps the major parties will co-opt some of Paul's ideas. More than likely, they wont.
Now that John McCain is definitely the republican nominee, I almost feel sorry to see Paul go. His supporters were definitely a passionate bunch (too passionate). He certainly brought many people into the process that normally wouldn't have given the government a second chance. I hope those same people do not revert to being the apathetic cynical elitists that made up his base of support. I hope they will support Obama, though that is probably asking for too much, since they all think he is CFR socialist scum. Oh well.
Paul has ruled out the idea of running as a libertarian (Bob Barr is taking care of that) or running as an independent (Nader takes care of that one). Gravel has talked about going 3rd party. I really dont think there is any room for Paul in November. Maybe I'm wrong, we will see. In any case, he has certainly left his mark on the campaign, I wish him luck in Texas district 14.
To his supporters, I say this: I may have angered some of you, perhaps to the point where I have turned you off to Obama as a viable candidate. For that I apologize. I was only trying to defend him on a site I felt was too heavily biased towards Paul, especially because his supporters wouldn't stop annoying me and everyone else that supported a candidate other than Paul. I have learned to see Ron Paul as the honorable politician that he is. When you remove the cult of personality around his campaign, I think you can definitely find him to be a decent, honest person, even though you might never agree with him on anything. Now that his quest for the white house is effectively over, I hope his supporters can do the same for Obama. Lord knows we have been pretty obnoxious ourselves, and I am not proud of it. But learn to judge him as a person, irrespective of the people that support him. You might not agree with everything he has to say, but at least you can say that out of the three candidates left standing in
either party, he is the lesser of all the evils. I personally support him because I think he is very genuine, but you might disagree. That's fine.
Above all else Ron Paul supporters, do not waste your vote this November. Do not resign yourselves to staying at home in protest because you think the government is a sack of shit. If you truly feel that way, then you owe it to yourself to VOTE, and vote for the candidates that you really feel represents that kind of change in government that we have been waiting for. If it ends up being Obama, then I thank you. But it doesn't matter who it is that you vote for, because if you don't, then YOU are the facilitators of your own oppression, and YOU will share the burden of responsibility, along with the other 50% of this country that will not vote, for handing this government back to the sinister and the corrupt. If you love your country, you will do everything you can to change it, especially when you know that it is headed in the wrong direction. That is the mark of a true patriot. I call on all Ron Paul supporters to fulfill their duties as patriotic citizens and vote in November. If you don't, and McCain win
s, don't whine when you get drafted.

Video was well put together. But keep in mind that Obama shakes the stick at Iran the same as McCain. Neither one knows how to fix the econemy, in fact they both supported the $700 billion bailout which can only hurt the econemy more.

As much as I appreciate your concern, I think you have to realize that the absence of action on the current economuic crisis would have led to another Great Depression. Maybe you feel that was a suitable alternative. I don't. We may have to add to the national debt in the short term, but I trust Obama to find ways to pay for it, considering his tax plan already was engineered to bring a surplus of revenue.

Throwing money at the problem can only hasten the finacial crisis. It's like putting a bandaid on a knife wound thats still being stabbed repeatedly. What needs to change is spending, America is spending way out of it's means and no amount of tax cuts or spending priority shifts can fix it.
They should be fixing the problems not treating the symptoms.

short of denying all senior citizens their social security checks for few months, there is no way a spending decrease could have payed for the bailout. as an aside, they cannot fix the problem if it was created a decade ago by Alan Greenspan's failure to raise the interest rates when the housing bubble happened. We are only able to reduce the damage of his inaction today.

The problem was not created by Alan Greenspan. It was created by the world banks (the federal reserve) through the monetary system. Although he was chairman of the Fed for a number of years, he was merely upholding the cause of the problem not the source. It's this system thats flawed, but done so purposefuly.
U.S. foreign policy is the accelerator to this and gives the primary reason for loans "bailouts" which in turn creates inflation, devaluing the dollar.

prdmommyof2, I think what you have to look at isn't "experience" but judgment. None of the candidates have experience as President, obviously. McCain has logged more time in Congress, but is that really valuable experience? I don't think so.
Obama has shown better judgment than McCain time and time again. Look at the Iraq War. Obama KNEW it was a bad idea and spoke out against it. McCain said it would be easy and inexpensive.
