Have you ever seen his first flicks? Do it! He learned from his first steps and the mistakes he did... The result is his filmography full of exciting and the most important movies ever made. Call it pure genius, but most of it was just hard work, a good taste and a lot of luck.
He looked for cheap ways of getting the illusion he needed. The saved money he spend on lots of time for trying out things with actors. Most filmmakers confuse "saving money" with "not spending money where it is useful".

Shelley made this film just as much as what's his name. She put up with the bull, although Nicholson (who didn't need to be involved cause of his status) was kind in future mentions. She was a hottie and a very dedicated and talented actress from what I gleened from the documentary. Anyone who says otherwise is a satan pest.

Shelley Duvall was a consumate actress. As a woman, she not only got the shaft (as usual) and verbal beat downs from Kuprick, while at the same time getting no respect from anyone who was introduced to what's-his-name. To say otherwise is to have egg on your own face and to say the movie didn't work. It did work. And she was perfect for it. It's always easy to picture your ugly wife in the role, but sorry. She was hot and probably still is.

LMFAO i guess i'm 1 of them, whatever they are. i'm not one to "judge" actors by looks but by talents, but hottie she is not... not to *Me* anyway- but i'm female, so yeah. so far as "talented actress"- meh.. i wouldn't hire her for one of my films unless i was making a movie for kids :/ sorry, but.. just.. puttin' it out there. :/

yz5954, I agree completely! Duvall was every bit as integral to the movie as Jack. Kubrick DID respect her, but knew he had to push her to get what she was there for.

Kubrick had similarities with Nicholson, such as the hair, eyebrows and nose. And Duvall had similar wide dark eyes. I wonder if there was something autobiographical in his thinking when he picked them.
