i know everybody likes this line, but I don't get it: "There's no success as failure, and failure is no success at all". I understand the second part of the sentence, but not the first. How could success be failure? Please enlighten me, unless Dylan was just making it up as he went along, as someone posted...

it's "there's no success like failure" which to me means that failure gives you lesson, you learn something & learn how to better yourself; because 'winning' all the time grows nothing. But "& failure's no success at all." is such a mindfuck to that sentence hahaha.

it's fascinating to watch and listen to these live performances. i don't think "bringing it all back home" had been released in england at the time "don't look back" was filmed, so this was probably the first time these people had heard dylan perform this song.
it's the same watching dylan introduce "mr. tamborine man" at newport in 64, or listening to him introduce the audience at philharmonic hall later that year to "gates of eden" and "it's alright ma".
