sorry but mini truckers werent the first with big wheels.... road race cars were. otherwise big wheels would not have existed. they quickly realized the performance benefit of a shorter sidewall without an overall smaller diameter tire. mini truckers are just mini truckers...not innovators of everything lowered.

I was talking vehicles driven on the street. If you want to be literal then ford ran 24s in the 20s. You cold go older to. first mini i saw run huge wheels was an s10 from down south that had 22s on it in 99 at the truck jam..first main stream truck bodied and on big rims was a green s10 from flordia..he had 22s..that was 2000..besides that the first bodied car was auto cores caddy on 20s back in 98...lexani,boyd,firestone and a couple others were poring huge amounts of $ into this movement

donks were started in the mid 90s by a group of guys that went to reds hydraulics in miami and told em to lift there cars and put bigger rims on em. the said tonka them out.so reds(who were mainly lowrider and minitruck enthusiasts) told em okay. but told em how unsafe they were and stopped until they did them right.

its all ugly as hell! cars in the 20's i wouldnt really call those large rims. they were wagon wheels! but call it as you may its impossible to nail down who did what first. people have been modding shit since the good ole days. monster trucks in the 70's were running 22.5 rig wheels and even larger agricultural shit. and dont think them florida boys werent driving them on the streets!!

i'll say this big wheels are a new trend as a thing you can purchase out of a store or internet or magazine and put on your car made to fit the application. I agree with a comment previously made that its hard to tell who started what sometimes. So i cant say who had the first pair ever but I have a cousin that had 24's in 2000 and they didnt even have tires that were okayed by the road and safety division to be sold when he had them, it was 2001 before he actually got his tires. he spent 10k+
