Everything looks confusing before one learns it properly. When BG becomes familiar, it's not so strange, but at this level, there's a lot of complexity happening, partly because of the added factor of "cubing", i.e raising the stakes/points value of the game in play.

I've played and watched both at a reasonable level, including winning a few minor tournaments, and though the greatness of chess is unbeatable, in a some senses BG is more fun. That doesn't mean it's "better": just a great game in a different way.
It's more lively, and any good player has a chance against even the best opponent. If you don't play BG at a serious level, you won't enjoy it's complexity and "fun" :)

confusing? Lol, its way more simple than chess or something. Besides, in chess, you can get better and better and study it until you explode, this game....eh...theres more luck involved. They are both fun, good gaems though.
